End of an era

It is befitting probably that the daughter of Saraswati departed from us to her heavenly abode along with the visarjan of Goddess Sarawati- the day after Saraswati puja. The legend is Lata Mangeshkar who is probably synonymous with Indian music. The legendary artist has sung uncountable songs in her heavenly voice. Don't think there ever will be an artist of this caliber and versatility. A career spanning over six decades she has sung songs in various languages from hindi, marathi, bengali, kannad to name a few and not surprisingly all her songs have been hits. Lata ji's accomplishments are such that it cannot be covered in one small post. Her solo songs, duets with Kishore Kumar, Md.Rafi, Manna De will always remain etched in time. I remember listening to her songs with my father, mother and grandmother. My grandmother who was contemporary with Lata ji also had great taste for music, she herself played the piano, harmonium and sang beautifully would always sing great praises for Lata ji. With her demise it brings back memories of loved ones who are no more with us physically but would always be close to us through memories created through her music.
The nation mourns the loss of her beloved daughter who may have left us but rest assured she will be alive in our hearts forever.
Utmost respect and prayers for the majestic voice of our nation- Lata Mangeshkar.  The voice that will always remain at the heart of every Indian. As her famous song aptly says:
'नाम गुम जायेगा, चेहरा ये बदल जायेगा
मेरी आवाज़ ही, पहचान है
गर याद रहे'
